My little monkey

Single lady to single mom

This past weekend I received a much needed mini vacation from the responsibilities of being an adult. Since I had to work for a few hours on Saturday, Jim decided to take Friday off work and head up to the lake with Bree which left me home alone. It was undescribably wonderful to have the house to myself. It stayed clean all weekend. I had no need or desire to vaccuum three times during the day. I could eat breakdast, lunch and dinner at whatever time I wanted. I even read an entire book. So peaceful. So relaxing. Even working on Saturday was fun (yes work can be fun) because I taught tweens how to make stepping stones using a pizza box and quikrete.

Then came Monday. Due to not much work around here, Jim was asked to work on the cottages up at the lake. Since the lake is an hour away and that would require my darling husband to get up earlier to be to work on time, he decided to just pack his bags and stay up there for the rest of the week. I don't blame him for wanting to stay. Its supposed to be a beautiful week. Its just amazing how quickly I went from being carefree, do whatever I want whenever I want single lady to single mom, doing it all. However, with Jim gone and no other distractions, I should have plenty of time after Bree goes to bed to file her pictures in photo albums.

This is the way we brush our teeth

Aahhh how she's growing up so fast. Just the other day I was getting Bree dressed for the day but she would not let me help her put her shirt on. She wanted to do it by herself!

Since you asked

We're just three days into the summer and, since I was recently asked what projects I have going on, I thought I should make a list of things to accomplish.

Summer Goals

* paint shed

* split and restack firewood

* restain all outdoor furniture

* get ceiling fans hung in the bedrooms

* get Bree's big girl bed in her room

* sew the curtains for Bree's bedroom

and because Summer should be about fun things too...

* take Bree to a Mud Hens game

* get Jim to take me to a Tigers game (or vice versa because we've been married almost 9 years and he still hasn't taken me to a game)

Thats all I can think of for now. I'm sure many more projects will present themselves as the days wear on.

Getting closer

Remember when I said "its only a matter of time before we make a trip to the ER"? We haven't made one yet but I can tell we are inching our way closer and closer. For example:

I was picking up the living room and vaccuuming when I noticed my darling daughter had not come to assist me. If you remember waaaaayyy back from this post, Bree loves the sweeper so its very unusual for her to not come running the moment the vaccuum clicked on. As I mentioned once before, if your kid is quiet they are usually up to no good. I was not prepared for this.

She climbs up onto the toilet seat. Then uses the tank to hoist herself onto the counter. From there she made herself comfortable in the sink and began to play with the faucet. Not only could she have slipped from being wet if she tried to climb out herself, but she could have gotten severly burnt the longer the hot water was on. I think I might have sprouted a gray hair.

Welcome to the family

Our laptop that had been having issues finally died. On its third visit back to the workshop it was determined that the motherboard was bad. Appartently the HP DV series had a bug in them that is making itself known. The computer shop said they have a shelf full of them that about 18 months into its life the motherboards just go bad.

So now that we've had a taste of life with a laptop its purely and utterly impossible to go back to a desktop (ewww...yuck). And with lack of comptuer withdrawl quickly setting in, we made a (to say the least) hasty purchase and now I introduce to you our new computer!! (oohs and ahhs inserted here).

Notice the humongous screen. The built in number pad. Of course we bought the normal warranty but are deciding if we learned our lesson with the first laptop and should go with the extended warranty. What do you guys think?

Busy Weekend

Last week was very, very busy. In fact, it was sooo busy that this is the only picture of Bree that was taken!!

Much of my week was consumed with preping for my dearest friends wedding.

She had a wonderfully short ceremony with an awesome reception that lasted long into the night. I'm not much of a dancer myself but I can honestly say that trait does not apply to my daughter. A live band (www.madhatterrocks.com) was hired and Bree was absolutely fascinated and intrigued with them. She shook her groove thing quite well.

Bree would even give the band a round of applause after the songs.

Thats all I have for you folks. When you are busy there is no time for picture taking. I didn't even get any pictures of the reception hall that took nearly 6 hours to decorate!! Oh well. Life happens.

Another Hiatus

My blog is going to take yet another hiatus. I will hopefully be back to blogging on Monday with lots of catching up to do.

A day in the life of us

Naturally after going to the zoo last week (that post is currently in the making) Bree has been fascinated with animals. There is no exception even when the animals are on TV.

Yesterday I was off work early and with the busy weekend looming ahead, we decided to work in the yard. Bree helped me weed the landscaping...

... and mow the lawn.

Then she helped Daddy with blow the grass clippings.

When all the work was done, it was time to play. I think we need to start placing bets on how soon it will be before we need to make a trip to the Emergency Room.

Sorry we missed you

Last night we drove over to the Delta Twist-E-Freeze for some good old hard dipped ice cream.

Since we were already close by we decided to stop at Grandma and Grandpa No-Hair's.

Sadly they were not home. But we needed a place to eat our icy treat so we crashed their playground.

Wordless Wednesday

Memorable Memorial Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend equals camping weekend. So while Jim was at work on Friday I got us all packed up and ready to go. When 4:30 hit, Jimmerz was home and we began our trek up to the lake for a long, ummm relaxing weekend. And immediately after dinner our adventure began with an unidentified rodent.

I thought it looked like someone's pet guinea pig got loose but dearest brother Randy was right when he said its actually a Muskrat. I had never seen one of these things before and they are quite cute. Not scared of people at all. Continuing on, Bree then took her first golf cart ride and she was hooked. No walking for the rest of the weekend. Just kidding but the golf cart did become her new toy of the weekend.

She even almost learned how to put the key into the ignition.

Eventually we made our way down to the beach where Bree was less than impressed with the sand. She didn't like getting "dirty".

With a little help from Grandma, she gradually got into the swing of it.

And speaking of swings, we just had to play at the playground.

Saturday broughts lots of hard work. For the boys that is. While Daddy, Papa and everyone else put in docks...

...Grandma, Bree and I headed down to the beach. Just as with the sand, Bree wasn't so sure about getting wet.

But, once again, with the help of Grandma quickly came to love the water too.

From all the excitement of the day plus "accidently" drinking lake water, Bree got sick Saturday night. It was a proud moment for Jim when he was able to catch the...umm.. sickeness in his hands (to keep it from going everywhere) without getting sick himself. So we decided that Bree and my camping weekend would end sooner than planned but not without squeezing in as much as possible first.

On our way home Sunday evening, I had a craving for chinese food. While we waited for our order, the cashier gave Bree a fortune cookie. It couldn't have been more perfectly suited.

Our weekend of camping and many adventures ended with one of God's best sunsets.
