Bye-bye June

Wow.  July 1st.  Already. 

I didn't take as many pictures as normal but here is the recap of June's crazy chaotic fun:

 

2.5 days in Washington D.C.  7 days in Outer Banks, North Carolina.  Broken sewer line.  Library craft program.  Girl's lunch craft day. 7 baseball games.  6 softball games.  Drive-In for Incredibles 2.  Grand Rapids visit.  Water balloon fight.  Family cook out.  Father's Day Game Day.  Garage sale.  Camping trip.  10 days of swim lessons.  2 golf outings.  1 Adopt a Highway clean up.  Swimming in the new city pool.  Swimming in the neighbors pool.  Swimming in Uncle Russ's pool.  Ridiculous amounts of ice cream.

I don't get it

On the way to a softball game tonight, the kids were taking turns telling jokes.  First there was the knock-knock jokes.  Then came the chicken crossing the road jokes.  And then came the corny jokes like

"How do you make a tissue dance?  You put a little boogie in it."

It was Bree's turn.  She asked:

 

"What animal don't you want to play cards with?"

 

Without hesitation, without missing a beat, like it was poised there on the tip of his tongue Jacob replies..

 

"A hungry duck."

 

Ummmm..... what?  Like.... what?!

 

He'll play cards with a lion or a hippo or a rhinoceros but a hungry duck? 

The line is drawn there. 

I don't get it either, Bree.



FYI:  The answer is...  You never want to play cards with a 'cheetah'.

Awards

Today was awards day at school.  Both Bree and Jake excelled beyond expectations and they deserve a moment to be recognized.

 

First Bree.

 

 

Today Bree was recognized for having an 'A' in Reading, 'A' in Science, 'A' in Social Studies, and 'A' in Math for the second semester with an overall 'A-B' Honor Roll achievement. She earned a Math Growth Award for showing 1.5 or more years of academic growth in math and an Homework Award for completing all homework in the second semester.  She also earned the Hard Work Award.  But her overall pride and joy, her crowning achievement is her Accelerated Reader Award Trophies.  Bree blew past earning 100 points, 200 points, 300 points, 400 points, 500 points, ending the year with a grand total of 524.4 AR Points for the whole year!  Awesome job, Bree.

 

 

 Then comes Jacob.

 

Jacob had quite the successful year too.  This year he was awarded the Citizenship Award (always following rules and being courteous to others including outside the classroom, on the playground, etc), passing 100 addition facts in 5 minutes, passing 100 subtraction facts in 5 minutes, passing 100 mixed addition/subtraction facts in 5 minutes, Reading Award, Spelling Bee,  Homework (completing all assigned homework on time), and Perfect Attendance Award for the 1st semester.  The award I'm the most proud of (and he even earned a Pride Award last year for this too) is the Handwriting Award!  Awesome year, Jake!

 

Now its time for a little R&R on vacation and then back at it - a little bit anyways.  Mama has something up her sleeve to keep those skills sharp during the summer.

Mother's Day Simplified

Today I was given the gift of nothingness. 

 

In fact, I was given the gift of nothingness for the whole weekend!

 

No shopping for food for the weekend celebrations.  No meal preps.  No meal clean up.  No dishes.  No laundry.  No errands.  No living room clean up for the 174th time in the same day.  No set time to get out of bed.  Nada.  

 

The gift of nothing never felt better.

 

After crafting the day away in peace and quiet, we went to the theatres to see the new Avengers movies. I was treated to Chinese food for dinner and, with no chores to do, I had time to read an entire chapter of my book - in one sitting.  The weekend could not have gotten any better.  And then I walk out into the living room to see my Mother's Day gifts.

 

 

Who doesn't love a bouquet filled with flowers AND scratch off tickets?

Hands down thee best baked lemon donuts made from scratch for breakfast (along with coffee I didn't have to make). 

 

Since the weather outside wasn't the best for hitting the greenhouse for garden plants, I parked myself on the couch with my laptop, catching up on blogging while watching the 'Goonies'.

 

It was relaxing.  It was lazy.  In fact, I may even say I was bored with so much nothingness to do.  But I'm definitely not complaining about that!  I worked out, took a leisurely shower, and had not a care in the world all weekend.  It was a much needed break. 

 

It was simply perfect.
