School was cancelled for yet another day this year. First the Polar Vortex with its negative air temps on top of the negative wind chills and now ice. Lots and lots of beautiful (to look at but I wish everyone could have stayed home to enjoy it) ice.
With all these days stuck at home comes tempers and frustrations of being in such close quarters. Stir crazy and restless attitudes cannot be fixed by spending more quality time together playing games. Everyone needs to be separated in their own rooms, reading, coloring, finding something to do that doesn't cause arguing. And in this peaceful quietness, I hear a faint "Dear Jesus" come out of Holly's mouth. I peek around the corner to see her rocking chair pulled up to the window as if she's watching the birds, hands folded, head down. Such a sacred moment, so precious.
I heard no further words of her prayer but as soon as she was done I knew what it was about. Laying in her lap was a real life, grown up camera that she had picked from Grandma Dominique's possessions. This dear child of mine wants nothing more than for it to work, to take real life pictures. Such a simple moment, one that is often overlooked, but I see the deeper meaning.
Pray. About everything. No matter how big, no matter how small, nor how silly of a request, have that conversation with God. Tell Him your dreams and desires. Tell Him your fears and thank Him for the joys of your day. Just as our spouse know that we love them and appreciate them, hearing those words of love and gratitude go a long way. God knows our hearts but wants us to come to Him, to have a relationship with Him. And that can't happen if we don't talk to Him - even if all we're asking for is a camera to work.
