Life in a cast - Day One in Review

After four days, three doctors visits and Bree still not walking, it was determined that Bree has a type of fracture called a 'buckle.' A buckle fracture is where one side of the bone buckles or folds on itself without affecting the other side. If you are having a hard time picturing what this would look like, just imagine a dented canned good. Apparently its the most common of fractures in children since their bones are still soft. So Bree is now in a purple full leg cast until November 4th.

The first morning with the cast was a little rough. When I walked into her room, she was in her bed trying to push the cast off. It was so sad but so cute. She kept giving me this look that said "who cares if I couldn't walk because of the pain, now I can't even crawl because of this stupid cast." I hate that look. It leaves me no option but to continue to pamper her.

Presents awaiting the cripple at the breakfast table.

It didn't take her very long to remember what to do with a present.

There's nothing better than the smell of yummy peanut butter blossoms in the house. She really got into the whole sprinkling of the sugar.

I can honestly say that Bree was having so much fun with the sugar that she forgot to try to eat the dough!

Then it was time to unwrap the kisses. Surprisingly she did not eat them....

but a few of them were missing their tips.

Towards the end the day Bree rips off one link signifying a day closer to having her anomaly removed. I have a feeling its going to be a long few weeks for me and my back. Its amazing how much weight that cast seems to add. So maybe the coutdown is more for Mommy that for Bree.
